felons-and-knivesCan a Felon Possess a Knife?

Answer: it depends. It is a crime in Oregon for a felon to possess an, “instrument or weapon having a blade that projects or swings into position by force of a spring or by centrifugal force or any blackjack, slungshot, sandclub, sandbag, sap glove, metal knuckles or an Electro-Muscular Disruption Technology device, or who carries a dirk, dagger or stiletto…”

So a normal knife is not an issue, unless it is spring loaded (assisted), or swings with centrifugal force. ¬†This means the typical ‘butterfly knife’, or ‘spring assisted’ knives are not lawful for a felon to possess unless the felony is expunged, reduced, or otherwise removed from their record.
