Can a Felon Possess a Knife?
Answer: it depends. It is a crime in Oregon for a felon to possess an, “instrument or weapon having a blade that projects or swings into position by force of a spring or by centrifugal force or any blackjack, slungshot, sandclub, sandbag, sap glove, metal knuckles or an Electro-Muscular Disruption Technology device, or who carries a dirk, dagger or stiletto…”
So a normal knife is not an issue, unless it is spring loaded (assisted), or swings with centrifugal force. This means the typical ‘butterfly knife’, or ‘spring assisted’ knives are not lawful for a felon to possess unless the felony is expunged, reduced, or otherwise removed from their record.
